Why Synthetic Diamonds are Expensive

Diamonds are always so fascinating. With their shiny and sparkling nature, they can mesmerize anyone. With the advancement of modern science, we have been producing a lot of different things inside our laboratories. The same goes for creating sophisticated material like diamonds. Scientists are artificially producing diamonds without causing any harm to mother nature. Generally known as synthetic diamonds, these diamonds are replacing the usage of real diamonds in many sectors.

Lab-made diamonds don’t require to be harvested from mines and also don’t require a thousand people working day and night with a risk of life. Though they are made by humans, lab diamonds don’t come very cheap. Usually, it takes a lot of time and proper procedure to create these synthetic diamonds. Scientists usually follow a process named chemical vapor depository. In this process, some crushed up diamonds are sprinkled onto a silicon wafer. After that those wafers are heated up with plasma containing both hydrogen and carbon. This process melts the diamond particles and creates an ideal environment for the diamond particles to form larger diamonds by following a crystallizing method. With enough time these microscopic diamonds form larger diamonds which we commonly know as synthetic or lab-made diamonds.

Apart from such a hard recipe, there are other reasons behind artificial diamonds’ worth. In short lab-grown diamonds are also real diamonds. They may not be natural, but that doesn’t make them fake either. From chemical structure to physical appearance, these synthetic diamonds are exactly the same as the natural diamonds we know. Even tasting these diamonds with diamond testing machines or UV machines they result as real diamonds. As their chemical properties are the same, they show the same principles as real diamonds in any test.

Synthetic diamonds usually cost 25% less than natural diamonds of the same size and weight. Which in fact, is a high price to pay for something that was created inside a laboratory. But, with all good reasons that price now makes sense.
